UX Research Lead

The Opportunity

We are seeking a UX Research Lead to be our first dedicated user experience researcher. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of user research at Otter. As the UX Research Lead, you’ll oversee all facets of user experience research—planning and conducting studies, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data, and turning insights into actionable improvements that drive product innovation and elevate the user experience. Responsibilities

  • Set up processes that empower others to do great research (not just expected to lead as an IC). Build a best-in-class research culture at Otter.
  • Organize insights in meaningful and accessible ways that cross-functional team members can reference, leverage, and refer back to over the course of time (create a shared knowledge bank).
  • Be the advocate for our diverse user base. Connect research insights found across PM, UX, Eng, data and CS. Regularly communicate insights in a clear, persuasive manner to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate across the org to develop a holistic understanding of our business, our users, and the best ways to serve them, gaining and sharing diverse perspectives and data.
  • Mentor and guide others in best practices and methodologies and instill a culture of curiosity and learning through user research.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in HCI, Psychology, or a related field
  • 5+ years experience in user experience research, preferably within the tech or AI industry
  • Strong knowledge of user research methodologies, including contextual inquiry, usability testing, surveys, and interviews
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into clear insights
  • Proficiency in creating research artifacts, such as personas, journey maps, and user flows
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey research findings to diverse audiences
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with voice and AI-driven products is a plus
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices in UX design
  • Proficiency in UX design tools, such as Figma and Adobe

Salary range

Salary Range: $170,000 to $190,000 USD per year.

This salary range represents the low and high end of the estimated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for the role is dependent on several factors. Our base salary is just one component of a comprehensive total rewards package.
