CleanHub is hiring a

Product Designer

Berlin

YOUR MISSION

CleanHub uses technology to address one of the world's most pressing issues: ocean plastic.

2bn people do not have access to effective waste management. Our lightweight platform enables waste management to be set up quickly in the coastal areas where it's needed most.

Through our app we track and trace the entire logistics chain to provide the digital evidence for every kg of plastic that did not end up in our oceans. CleanHub partners with sustainable consumer brands to finance the collection of ocean bound plastic with every product they sell.

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to focus on our Impact Platform for Brand Marketeers. This is how our brands manage and communicate their environmental impact.

You will be joining CleanHub at a critical and exciting time. So far we financed the collection of 8,000,000kg (equivalent to 800 million soda bottles) of ocean bound plastic - now it’s time to scale the impact.

In this role, you will report to our VP Product and work as part of an empowered cross-functional team with Product, Engineering, Customer Success and Marketing.

What you are going to do:

You are responsible for ensuring that our users have a delightful product interaction whenever they engage with CleanHub. Your work needs to inspire them to come back regularly to receive updates on their contribution to ocean protection. The more value our customers see, the longer they will support projects and the more they will expand their impact.

To achieve this you will work closely with your product manager to:

  • Understand user needs - help the whole team to understand what problems we need to solve and why
  • Design elegant solutions - collaborate with your cross-functional team to propose features and journeys that bring high user or business value for minimal investment.
  • Structured creativity - make intelligent design decisions backed up by quantitative and qualitative insights
  • Fail successfully - design experiments (prototypes, lean features) that allow us to learn quickly so that we focus our resources on what works
  • Iterate and improve - measure the success of your work and push for the best possible user experience.
  • Inspire - motivate the team with the vision of what the future might look like

You tick these boxes:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in product design, ideally in a startup environment working in cross-functional teams to an outcome-based roadmap.
  • You have launched new products or features to active users and used data and feedback to make them better.
  • It’s a big plus if you have experience with social media, consumer activism, community-driven products or Edtech (but not essential)

These are the things you're known for:

  • Curiosity — you can’t wait to learn about and understand new things
  • All about the problem — you’re obsessive about the problem you’re solving and the people you’re solving it for. You’re an intuitive researcher.
  • UX with detail and quality — you ‘sweat the detail’ and do the hard work needed to make something you’ve produced feel easy and elegant
  • Energy and positivity - you’re an evangelist for our product and our users and want everyone to understand the value we are bringing
  • Predisposed to action — when you see an issue, you don’t sit on your hands, you challenge, you get things done
  • Outcomes focussed — you care about solving problems (outcomes) not on looking busy (outputs)
  • Communication — you can get ideas out there clearly, with the engineer, the product manager or the CEO
  • Relationships — you can build strong, trusting relationships, even with people who don’t work in the same way as you.
  • People — you can put yourself in others’ shoes and understand things from their perspective (both with your users and with your colleagues)

WHY US?

Join our impact-driven team to enable the circular economy and stop plastic ending up in our oceans:

  • A job with purpose, you work together with a team dedicated to solve one of the planet’s biggest challenges
  • A job with high impact, both on the environment as well as on the shape and structure of a fast-growing startup. As one of the first product designers you will be core to building an amazing product culture at CleanHub
  • We have an office in Berlin (where our founders and part of the team lives) and a growing hub in London. You would need to be based out of one of these locations but we are flexible on where you choose to work.
  • We have team members around the world but we aim to bring the whole team together in person every quarter.
