Mid Weight Product Designer

About The Role

The Telegraph is seeking a Mid-Weight Product Designer to become a valuable member of its Product Design team. You will have the chance to collaborate with a talented and friendly group of multidisciplinary designers and developers. This role presents an exciting prospect to shape our customer experiences in a new project area, while also contributing to the enhancement of the core Telegraph experiences across our mobile app and responsive web products.

You’ll be an integral part of our product lifecycle, designing the future of how The Telegraph communicates with its users. Utilising research and data alongside iterative testing and design best practices to create experiences which keep our user coming back time and again. You’ll be passionate about problem solving and have strong design instincts, unafraid of voicing your opinion, you'll be proactive and keen to get stuck into any brief big or small. Working collaboratively with fellow designers and business stakeholders to ideate and push the limits of our products beyond each brief.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with Senior designer on an exciting new project area and other Lead, Mid-weight and Junior designers on a range of projects, collaborating with other design teams, developers and stakeholders across the business to achieve shared goals.
  • Take part and conduct research with readers, interpreting results, identifying needs and putting them into action.
  • Work with teams to define and design iterative A/B and MVT testing programmes to validate your ideas, learning through failures as much as successes.
  • Map out experiences through user journeys and user flows to establish ideas and opportunities.
  • Continuously improve your designs, working with research and data tools to gain a deeper understanding of how your designs are working.
  • Develop high quality visual designs with a keen eye for typography, colour theory, grid systems and knowledge of user interface approaches across a range of digital platforms including responsive web and app.
  • Contribute to The Telegraph Design System.
  • Able to clearly articulate your design thinking and process with robust rationale for your design decisions to stakeholders across Editorial,
  • Product and Technology during regular design reviews.
  • Design end to end user experiences from concept through to developer handoff, utilising animation and prototyping tools, to bring your vision to life.
  • Be a motivated team player, ambitious in your thinking and brave in your designs, with the ability to perform well under pressure.

Key Skills

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your design process and thinking end-to-end, with a good eye for graphic design, digital design patterns and interactions, and understanding of product development process.
  • A BA in a design related degree, or similar experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of design software, such as Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as prototyping tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of User Research, and user testing tools such as UserZoom and UserTesting.com.

Additional skills useful for the role

  • Experience in front end development.
  • Previous work experience in news media organisations or related industries.
