About

TeachFX is a growing, mission-driven startup creating an AI coach that helps teachers improve their instruction. As Lead Product Designer at TeachFX, you'll report directly to our Head of Product and contribute significantly to our design strategy, design methodology, and user research, serving teachers and venerating the craft of excellent teaching. You’ll be working on the cutting edge of how to design human-centered AI-driven technology, and as one of the first designers on the team you’ll have enormous impact.

We’re backed by best-in-class investors including Ulu Ventures, Newfund, Brighteye Ventures, Reach Capital, Pearson Ventures and Osage Venture Partners. This role can be based anywhere in the US with a strong preference for SF Bay area.

Responsibilities:

  • Employ user-centered design principles to create intuitive, impactful user experiences.
  • Create, test, and evaluate hypotheses through rapid iteration.
  • Develop a range of artifacts: low-fi concepts, storyboards, wireframe prototypes, and high fidelity, pixel-perfect designs.
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative research to understand user needs and behaviors and determine the product design direction.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and QA to adjust scope and launch products to spec.
  • Serve as a leader in the development and visualization of our brand.
  • Create a curious, collaborative, nimble design culture as one of the first product designers on our small team.

Who you are:

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer who cares about social impact and has a strong track record of creating user experiences and designs users love.

You must:

  • Have 5+ years of professional experience with a portfolio of beloved user experiences and a few teammates that would call you the best – or one of the best – designers they’ve ever worked with.
  • Be excited by our mission to serve teachers, venerate the craft of teaching, and impact millions of students' lives through your work.
  • Be knowledgable and curious about UX best practices, finding inspiration from wildly diverse products and experiences.
  • Love rapid, playful iteration on UI designs, with an understanding of layout, hierarchy, and typography and experience using AI tools to accelerate prototype and design work.
  • Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial culture. Comfort with ambiguity and change.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative user research.
  • Experience designing educational content, mobile apps, or products for educators.
  • Experience managing design teams.
  • Experience teaching in K-12 classrooms.

More about Us:

TeachFX is an AI coach that helps teachers improve their instruction.

Teachers in K-12 classrooms record audio while teaching a lesson, using their phone or computer. TeachFX processes the recording and sends teacher a insightful report that help them reflect on and improve their teaching practices. We also provide a summary, summary image, a word cloud, and transcript of the lesson.

TeachFX’s reports focus on teaching practices that encourage academic student discourse. Teachers become better at eliciting student talk by seeing how often they are speaking compared to students, asking more open-ended questions, and by learning to follow questions with the silent pauses often needed for “think time.” In contrast to most edtech tools, we aren’t just giving teachers data on what content to focus on. We’re improving how teachers teach, which creates more conversational, equitable classrooms, more engaged learning, and happier educators and principals.

There are several traditional formats for teacher development: lectures, walkthroughs, evaluations, and in-person coaching. TeachFX is a unique complement and often replacement for these methods because it is objective, non-evaluative, teacher-driven, personalized, private, frequent, and iterative. Backed by best-in-class investors including Ulu Ventures, Newfund, Brighteye Ventures, Reach Capital, Pearson, and Osage, we're bringing together the best of computational linguistics, machine learning, and education research to superpower teachers. Our mission, unique ML IP, and proven results from RCTs have led to collaborations with Teach for America and researchers at Stanford and other leading universities.
