UMR, UnitedHealthcare’s third-party administrator solution, is seeking an experienced digital communications designer who appreciates the opportunity to improve people’s health through design. An integral part of our Digital Solution’s team, we’re looking for a person who is fired up about partnering with business owners, developers, product owners and project management teams to improve the user experience connecting service touch points and experiences via web, mobile, email, and other new technologies. This position offers the right candidate a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where leading through collaboration and innovative problem solving to meet critical business needs is highly prized and celebrated.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate expertise in designing intuitive, user-centered experiences and interfaces across both mobile applications and desktop platforms
  • Proficient in industry-standard tools including Figma for interface design, Miro for collaborative brainstorming and planning, and Adobe Experience Manager for content management and digital experience delivery
  • Operate independently within Agile teams while effectively collaborating with Digital Solutions colleagues, cross-functional partners, and direct leadership to drive project success
  • Create and present wireframes and storyboards early and often in the design process to illustrate screen flow, navigation patterns, and key interaction details
  • Design interactive prototypes for web and mobile interfaces that accurately represent the visual design and functional behavior of proposed features
  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal teams to meet project deadlines while ensuring all deliverables align with UMR’s voice, tone, and brand standards, as well as overarching business strategies and customer needs
  • Stay current with UX/UI trends, WCAG accessibility standards, Agile methodologies, and content management best practices. Apply emerging best practices to balance innovation with operational feasibility, functional effectiveness, and long-term viability
  • Partner with key stakeholders and product owners to define the vision for assigned projects, ensuring designs engage the target audience and drive meaningful results
  • Demonstrate adaptability and collaboration by seamlessly transitioning between assignments, embracing new processes, and contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation
  • Act as an active contributor within an Agile project team, delivering iterative UX/UI designs as digital capability requirements are continuously defined, refined, and developed
  • Dive deep to understand existing functionality, partner with Data Analysts to inform design decisions with data
  • Make thoughtful decisions that consider downstream impacts and lateral effects across platforms with shared experiences, applications, components, and content

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Marketing or Product Design with an emphasis on digital design, interactive media
  • 5+ years of digital design experience as a UX Designer preferably within web application and/or mobile app development
  • 1+ years of experience working in Agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

Soft Skills:

  • Experience working with a team and independently, leading solutioning, staying organized and managing multiple projects
  • Comfortably operate in ambiguous spaces, proactively translating uncertainty into clear, actionable product and design direction
  • Ability to quickly react to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment
  • History of working cross-functionally and navigating a matrixed environment in a large company
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
