Mid-Weight Product Designer

About The Role

As a Mid-weight Product Designer in The Telegraph’s Puzzles (Games) team, you’ll deliver end-to-end design solutions with a high degree of autonomy. You’ll work from initial research and ideation through to final visuals, balancing user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility. You’ll also support junior designers by sharing your knowledge and best practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead design for well-scoped projects or significant parts of larger initiatives.
  • Plan and conduct unmoderated usability tests and interpret findings to iterate designs.
  • Deliver responsive, accessible and high-quality user journeys and interfaces.
  • Contribute new patterns and components to The Telegraph Design System.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers and stakeholders to shape solutions.
  • Present design rationale with clarity to peers and cross-functional partners.

About you

  • Proven product design experience, ideally in digital products at scale.
  • Confident working independently, comfortable handling ambiguity within briefs.
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset — able to use research and data insights to inform decisions.
  • Supportive and collaborative team member, open to feedback and mentoring juniors.

Essential skills

  • Portfolio showing strong interaction and visual design, with clear user-centred process.
  • Professional experience delivering product design across responsive platforms (web and/or app).
  • Experience running or contributing to usability testing and research activities.
  • Skilled in Figma and prototyping tools, with ability to share and explain work clearly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and how to apply them in practice.

Useful skills

  • Experience contributing to a Design System.
  • Knowledge of subscription, publishing or e-commerce product design.
  • Ability to create supporting illustrations, icons or simple animations.
  • Interest in experimentation and optimisation (A/B or MVT testing).
  • Basic familiarity with front-end technologies for collaboration with engineers.
