About Superhuman
Grammarly is now part of Superhuman, the AI productivity platform on a mission to unlock the superhuman potential in everyone. The Superhuman suite of apps and agents brings AI wherever people work, integrating with over 1 million applications and websites. The companys products include Grammarlys writing assistance, Codas collaborative workspaces, Mails inbox management, and Go, the proactive AI assistant that understands context and delivers help automatically. Founded in 2009, Superhuman empowers over 40 million people, 50,000 organizations, and 3,000 educational institutions worldwide to eliminate busywork and focus on what matters.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Design Technologist on the Design Foundations team, you will lead AI prototyping and internal tooling initiatives that drive precision, cohesion, accessibility, and brand consistency across the design organization. You will help ensure our AI-native platform (spanning email, calendars, docs, and agents) is supported by scalable systems that maintain our high-quality standards.
You will develop AI-assisted design tooling, including prototyping frameworks, customized generation tools, and micro-interaction systems. Working in close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Design, you will guide AI integration into design workflows from early experimentation through production deployment.
In partnership with design leadership, product, and research, you will translate speculative and near-term concepts into high-fidelity, interactive prototypes. You will also build the internal tooling, frameworks, and AI integrations that enable the design organization to prototype, validate, and ship with quality and design system integrity.
In this role, you will:
- Build high-fidelity, interactive prototypes that bring speculative and near-term product ideas to life with enough realism to be used in research, stakeholder alignment, and product decision-making.
- Use AI tooling and write clean, front-end code (HTML/CSS/JavaScript, React) to build micro-interactions, production-ready prototypes and develop and refine internal tools to support Design workflows.
- Build custom AI API integrations, structured outputs, workflows and skills that integrate with our design tokens, components, accessibility standards, and motion system.
- Create surface templates and prompting frameworks to accelerate prototyping experimentation across the design org.
- Partner with the Design System and Accessibility teams to develop tools that augment the efficiency and scale of their work.
- Help define how AI integrates into our front-end workflows, including validation, CI checks, token enforcement, and refactoring for cohesion.
- Introduce on-brand motion and micro-interactions that elevate clarity and delight.
- Develop reusable prototyping frameworks and internal tooling that help the broader team explore and validate ideas more quickly.
- Help define Superhumans approach to AI-native design: the interaction patterns, design principles, and prototyping practices that will influence how we build for years.
Qualifications
- Have 8+ years across creative technology, design engineering, interaction design, or advanced prototyping with a portfolio that demonstrates both technical sophistication and strong design instincts.
- Have built interactive experiences powered by LLMs (Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini APIs) — not just integrated a chat UI, but designed experiences where AI behavior is part of the interaction design.
- Have worked closely with Design Systems and Accessibility teams.
- Are fluent in Figmas advanced capabilities: Variables, Advanced Prototyping, Plugins API, REST API.
- Have strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React — enough to build anything you can design, at prototype fidelity.
- Are comfortable with Claude Code, Framer, Cursor, etc for rapid, code-adjacent prototyping.
- Understand AI API integration: streaming, prompt engineering, structured outputs, tool use.
- Have experience building structured prompts, automation frameworks, or code-generation recipes.
- Have deep understanding of design tokens, theming systems, and component architecture.
- Have working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design best practices.
- Are familiar with motion and interaction tools (Framer Motion, After Effects, Lottie, or similar).
- Can move fast while maintaining quality — you calibrate fidelity to the question, not to habit.
- Think in scalable systems, abstractions, and long-term frameworks.
- Have strong design instincts: you care about how a prototype feels, not just what it demonstrates.
- Are an excellent communicator and collaborator who can work alongside researchers, designers, and engineers and speak all three languages.
- Obsess over clarity, usability, and delightful details.
Nice to have
- Experience building or fine-tuning LLM-powered features, agents, or tool-use flows.
- Familiarity with WebGL, Three.js, Spline, or generative/creative coding.
- Background in product design, front-end engineering or UX research.
- Have shared work publicly in talks, open-source tools, or prototypes that influenced how people think about a problem.
