About SortiePoint-to-Point Operations for the Remote Last Mile
Sortie is the operating system for rural logistics operators that move passengers, freight, and medevac missions for communities that depend on them. Globally, 1.6 billion people rely on these operators, yet most still run on paper calendars, phone calls, or 30-year-old software. The result is missed revenue, underutilized aircraft, stranded customers, and zero data visibility.
Sortie replaces all of that with an end-to-end platform: real-time dispatch, online booking and payments, dynamic pricing, crew scheduling, live aircraft tracking, freight workflows, and maintenance tools. Were currently live with Penobscot Island Air and expanding to similar operators through 2026. Sortie is a venture-backed startup, founded by a team with multiple exits, most recently at Spotify.
Why This Role Matters
The SaaS interface as we know it is dying. For a decade, the playbook has been the same: tables, graphs, and buttons that are marginally better than a spreadsheet. We believe the next generation of operational software looks fundamentally different.
Leaders in next-generation SaaS will be those who seamlessly blend AI skills, interactive components, and dense operational dashboards into a single experience. Thats what youll be designing.
What Youll Do
- Design the core Sortie ops platform: realtime, dispatch, scheduling, booking, freight, and maintenance workflows used daily by real operators
- Define how conversational AI and traditional UI coexist in a single product, including when to surface a component, when to stay in text, and how to transition between the two
- Own the design system that supports both information-dense dashboards and conversational interfaces
- Design the customer-facing booking portal, which must be co-brandable with the operators identity
- Work directly with engineering and operations; youll ship constantly
- Spend time with actual operators to understand how dispatchers, pilots, and freight handlers think about their work
What Were Looking For
- Strong systems thinking — youre designing workflows for safety-critical operations, not marketing pages
- Experience designing complex, data-rich applications (scheduling, logistics, mapping, or similar operational tools)
- Comfort with ambiguity and new interaction patterns — theres no established playbook for blending conversational AI with operational dashboards
- Familiarity with responsive and mobile design — operators are on tarmacs and docks, not at desks
- 3-5 years in a professional design role.
Nice to Have
- Experience in aviation, logistics, maritime, or other operational industries
- Interest in or exposure to LLM-powered interfaces and agentic workflows
