The role
Our Product, Design and Technology department is looking for an Associate Product Designer to join our team and help us craft the Sedex product experience. Under the guidance of senior members of the Product Design team, you will operate within a multi-disciplinary squad dedicated to one of our product areas. This is an ideal opportunity for someone starting their development across both user experience and interface design.
Key Responsibilities
As an Associate Product Designer you will:
- Work closely with a Product Manager and Tech Lead, under the direction of a senior member of the Product Design team, to support a product area.
- Assist in gathering and prioritising design requirements.
- Help gather analysis on competing products and features.
- Participate in project user research activities with direction from the User Research team, implementing product feedback with guidance from senior team members.
- Help ideate, sketch, wireframe and prototype product features and components.
- Provide high-fidelity user interface designs using components from our design system.
- Work with Front and Back End Engineers throughout the Design process to gain an understanding of how our products are built.
- Be responsible for design sign-off of components and features before they go live.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
As a less experienced member of the Product Design team you will ideally have:
- A willingness and desire to learn the craft of Product Design.
- A portfolio that demonstrates how you approach and solve Product Design problems.
- Some experience producing tactical design outputs.
- An interest in the role qualitative and quantitative user research plays in Product Design.
- An understanding of user experience design, behavioural design and usability concepts.
- An interest in the practical applications of design principles, including grid, typography, and colour theory.
- An understanding of interaction design and design systems.
- A basic knowledge of the accessibility implications of Product Design decisions.
- A collaborative attitude, showing humility and empathy when dealing with others.
- The ability to give, and receive, constructive feedback.
- Good communication skills, whether written or verbal.
- Familiarity with Figma, or similar design software skills.
- A relevant degree, equivalent qualification, or experience.
Our Product, Design and Technology Team
At Sedex we:
- Have multi-disciplinary teams, made up of a Product Manager, Product Designer and both Front and Back End Engineers.
- Share User Research, Content Design, Product Marketing, and Analytics experts across the teams.
- Assign teams one or two strategically important problems to solve alongside some KPIs to meet.
- Allow teams to identify how best to solve these problems and meet their KPIs.
- Do as much discovery and testing as possible to ensure we identify the most valuable problems to solve and the best way to solve them.
- See collaboration as key, working side by side with many different business functions to deliver products to market.
- Work in an agile way, not just in Product, Design and Technology, but across the entire business.
