Product Design Lead

What is the opportunity?
We’re two years into our digital transformation at RBC Insurance and the foundations are set. We’re ready to leverage our new technology, agile processes, and strong design team culture to push what it means to simplify insurance for all Canadians. We’re hiring for a Product Design Lead to craft the design strategy and implementation for client-facing insurance experiences such as our secure client portal, public website, and group benefits mobile app. You’ll merge creativity with technical innovation using human-centered methodologies to define net new experiences and optimize existing channels. Reporting into the Director, Digital Design, you’ll partner with other design and digital product leads to align on roadmaps and bring experiences to life using systems-thinking, interaction modelling, prototyping, visual design, and A/B testing. This role will involve balancing individual contributor responsibilities and being a manager to two direct reports.

What you will do?

  • Define and translate experience design strategy for client-facing channels into artifacts and roadmaps in partnership with digital product, growth, and tech
  • Design web and mobile experiences from inception to launch across the full product life cycle including identifying problems, defining hypotheses, ideation, test and learn, and design execution
  • Support, coach, and manage designers on their challenges and growth opportunities, including mechanisms to enable high-quality outcomes
  • Collaborate with our research team to uncover and leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design decisions including usability and/or A/B testing
  • Co-lead the product design practice with other leads including the maintenance and scalability of our spoke design system, ensuring consistency and simplicity within our evolving brand guidelines

What you need to succeed?

Must haves

  • 8+ years of product design experience and/or a similar role, with 2+ years of leading and/or managing designers
  • A portfolio illustrating a range of strategic thinking, research, interaction and visual design
  • Experience working in an agile environment building and launching products or digital experiences
  • A strong understanding of Accessibility and Inclusive Design practices

Nice to haves

  • Undergraduate degree in Design (e.g. interaction design, visual communications, product, industrial) or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience working within a highly regulated industry, with legal teams or subject matter with complex terms and requirements
