Pencil are hiring a

Product Designer - Platform

At Pencil

We are driving innovation in advertising technology through our state-of-the-art SaaS product, which harnesses Generative AI to redefine content creation. Our mission is to make AI the default in advertising without replacing creative people. To achieve this, we need to make sure that our technology isn’t just in the hands of big brands - we need to try to help small businesses and creative individuals too.

We’re hiring a Product Designer

You will take full ownership of the foundational product experience across the entire app. You will lead design from strategy to execution, working closely with Product and Engineering to establish a strong structure, coherence, and scalability for the Pencil platform. This role is ideal for someone who wants real responsibility, champions consistency and user experience rigor, and thrives in an environment where your work enables all other product teams to move fast and scale effectively. You won’t just push pixels; you’ll define the architectural patterns that underpin the entire content creation workflow.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally within SaaS or complex, platform-level applications.
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates systems thinking and a focus on consistency, structure, and solving complex architectural problems.
  • Scalability mindset with experience designing foundations that can support many features and teams over time.
  • Deep craft sensibility and a high bar for quality, with a strong focus on user experience rigor and reducing friction across complex journeys.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and demonstrate Integration Awareness, thinking about files, DAMs, onboarding, and system-level interactions.
  • A Cross-team alignment expert, able to work across multiple pods and balance competing needs to drive product-wide coherence.
  • Strong experience working closely with engineers, with a clear understanding of how to translate system design into real, stable production UI.
  • Highly proficient in Figma, using it fluently to explore ideas, communicate intent, and evolve design systems.
  • Comfortable designing in ambiguous or evolving environments, always prioritizing stability over chaos.

Responsibilities

  • Own the foundational product experience end-to-end, covering areas like onboarding, login, homepage, navigation, sidebar, settings, and file organization.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to ensure the platform enables all other teams to move fast and scale features consistently.
  • Support key shared surfaces, such as Canvas, Workflows, and other cross-product experiences, ensuring a coherent user journey.
  • Design for a robust and coherent experience, focusing on structure and clarity in organizing information architecture and user flows.
  • Bring order where rapid feature shipping can create fragmentation, acting as a Consistency Champion across the product.
  • Conduct user experience research and apply rigor to address usability, edge cases, and reducing friction across critical user journeys.
  • Use and contribute to our design system, evolving core patterns, components, and foundations to support long-term product scalability.

This role is for you if…

  • You are a Systems thinker obsessed with designing a product that feels whole, consistent, and architecturally sound.
  • You thrive on bringing structure and clarity to complex, cross-product user flows.
  • You are driven by the long-term goal of scaling the experience and enabling other teams to move faster.
  • You are a Consistency Champion who believes in the power of a cohesive design system and foundational patterns.
  • You are expected to own the foundational platform experience end-to-end, defining the ground rules for the entire application.

Benefits

  • 25 days PTO plus public holidays, although we operate a Flexible Time Off scheme.
  • Health insurance / private medical cover.
  • Monthly stipend towards wellness, fitness, and learning and development.
  • Remote - work from anywhere in your home country.
  • Enhanced parental leave policies, whether you become a parent through birth, adoption or surrogacy.
  • Access to our Pencil office in The Shard, London for UK employees.
  • Flexible working hours.
