About this opportunity

MillerKnoll’s Summer Internship Program is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a 100% real-world experience for students early in their careers. Throughout the summer you will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Product Design Intern to join the Design Within Reach Design Team. This internship offers a strong opportunity to learn from experts and thought leaders within the industry, while getting connected with notable designers across the community. The opportunity will be focused on assisting ground-up design work and creative direction, learning about materials and manufacturing processes, and gaining insight into the life of a professional designer.

What You'll Do

You'll have opportunities to speak up, solve problems, influence others, and be an owner every day as you:

  • Research competitive landscape within the premium to luxury modern home furnishings industry
  • Research historical modern design references within home furnishings product typologies
  • Assist design team on 3D CAD modeling of products
  • Assist design team in physical modeling of products
  • Hand sketch ideas in response to design briefs
  • Maintain and organize design materials library and product design archive

What You Bring

The needed skills and experience for this role include:

  • Adobe Creative Suite: Proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • 3D Modeling & Rendering: Experienced with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and KeyShot
  • 3D Printing: Knowledge of setup, slicing, and operation of FDM/Resin printers
  • Rapid Prototyping: Skilled in creating mockups using paper, foam core, and other quick-fab materials
  • Hand Drawing & Sketching: Strong freehand sketching for ideation and presentation
  • Time Management: Able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively
  • Problem Solving: Creative and analytical approach to resolving design challenges

Education

Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Product Design, or a related field. You must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (overall or within your program) to qualify for consideration in the Intern Program.

Qualifications
