Sr Product Designer

Support Center - Irving

The Sr Product Designer role is responsible for creating user-centered experiences to support Michaels digital touchpoints for our makers and our store team members (including websites, apps, and in-store experiences/solutions like self-checkout and point of sale). Through an advanced understanding of user-centered design principles and digital best practices, this role will effectively communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. Communication tactics may include but are not limited to: wireframes, user flows, competitive benchmarking, and user research. This impactful role will work closely with cross-functional teams to advocate for the needs of our end-users and the Design Team.

Major Activities

Design Creation

  • Provide insight into trends, innovation and best practices in e-commerce and user experience design
  • Propose user experience enhancements to existing systems
  • Create innovative concepts and drive decision-making forward to make progress on delivery
  • Manage user experience design, prototyping and proposing project definition activities, and design documentation
  • Provide quality assurance with engineering and product prior to launch
  • Create new design patterns that can be used across the UX team and be implemented all the way to a development library

Contribute to Design Team Standards and Processes

  • Leverage advanced knowledge of Design Team standards and processes
  • Identify areas of opportunity to enhance standards and processes

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Lead and participate in design reviews by sharing work and mentoring others
  • Present to Design leadership
  • Support design team with various projects, presentations, and initiatives
  • Provide mentorship to Designers
  • Determine the creation of project timelines and plans, including level of effort
  • Collaborate with, present to, and guide peers and partners
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education

Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Advanced experience in current design tools, i.e., Figma, Miro, Adobe Creative Suite and experience in collaboration tools i.e. JIRA, Confluence

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • 5+ years of design experience
  • Digital portfolio demonstrating strong understanding of design, including advanced competency in project execution, design systems, and style guides
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Education

MFA (Fine Arts) or MSA (Design)

Preferred Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Certification from Nielson-Norman Interactive Design International, or other accredited program
  • 2 year experience working in Agile/Scrum development process
  • Experience with collaboration tools i.e., JIRA, Confluence

Preferred Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Experience conducting user research using various methodologies
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript
