Position Overview

MetaPhase is seeking a UI/UX Designer with at least 3 years of experience to support a mission-driven initiative within the FBI’s ITSSS-2 portfolio. You will join a dynamic team of developers, analysts, and designers delivering intuitive and modern digital solutions. This is an opportunity to influence user experiences across employee-facing platforms, ensuring designs meet both business goals and user expectations in a secure federal environment.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Design user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and clickable prototypes for web and mobile applications.
  • Conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, and usability testing to inform design decisions and validate outcomes.
  • Create and refine user workflows and user interface (UI) designs to support new functionality, enhancements, and usability improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles, incorporating accessibility (508 compliance), responsive design, and intuitive navigation.
  • Translate complex user needs and technical requirements into clean, modern, and functional UI designs.
  • Contribute to and maintain design systems, style guides, and pattern libraries that support consistency across applications.
  • Communicate design decisions and UX strategy clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide feedback and best practices to support an Agile development lifecycle.

What We Need From You (Required):

  • Current active Top-Secret clearance, with SCI eligibility. U.S. Citizenship required (NO EXCEPTIONS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design for web or mobile platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct user research, create user flows, and translate requirements into design solutions.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering client-ready artifacts, such as style guides, wireframes, and clickable prototypes.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing visual design skills and UX problem-solving.

Bonus Points (Desired):

  • Familiarity with US Web Design Standards (USWDS) and Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g) best practices.
  • Knowledge of federal digital service guidelines, Section 508 compliance, and user-centered design in secure environments.
  • Experience supporting DOJ, FBI, or similar national security agencies.

Work Setup & Clearance:

Hybrid in Washington, DC. Position requires a current, active Top-Secret clearance with the capability to obtain an (SCI) as requested by the government. U.S. Citizenship required (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Travel:

Occasional travel to Winchester, VA.

Compensation:

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is 120k-145k.
