Job Description

At Nexus Black, we’re defining the future of Industrial AI. We’re building AI first products that unlock real world impact for the critical industries we depend on, products that empower the people who keep us moving, keep the lights on, and keep the world working. In these high-stakes arenas, design is critical, it’s about clarity when the pressure is highest, trust when failure isn’t an option, and the ability to empower users while delighting them, turning advanced technology into moments that feel like magic.

As one of our first designers here, you’ll join the former director of a craft obsessed studio to apply the same level of design quality typically reserved for consumer products to underserved yet critical industries. We’re in the early stages, so you'll have the chance to apply your design expertise across every phase of the design, from proposition development and research through to production level design. We’re looking for someone who thrives in evolving environments and is truly passionate about design, brand and product. This is your chance to move beyond designing interfaces and instead define what good looks like in the category.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with and support a team of engineers, product owners, and industry experts to design and build products that you feel genuinely proud of.
  • Apply your design thinking and execution skills throughout the entire product lifecycle, keeping a keen eye on opportunities to step in and step up.
  • Help shape the visual identity of products, we’re rapidly crafting a new brand, and we’d love folks who are keen to push this to product.
  • Participate in design reviews, sharing, and brainstorming.
  • Help us be recognized as the category leader for design.
  • Co-facilitate discovery workshops and support research.
  • Craft exceptionally designed products.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product design experience at a product agency, in-house or consultancy.
  • Experience working in collaborative, highly iterative, cross-functional teams, sharing work daily.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Ability to develop trusted relationships with C-suite and senior executives.
  • Proven experience at a senior level, with a portfolio that showcases your range - ideally with a mix of experience.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, enabling effective critique and design discussions, with a demonstrated ability to communicate design rationale and strategy effectively.
  • Low ego and the belief that everyone in the team contributes to the design of the product.
  • A track record of working across the product development cycle, from initial vision and discovery through to detailed design execution.
  • Motivated by feedback and the opportunity to improve the work and how you come together as a team.
  • 3D & motion skills are a bonus.
