Senior Interaction Designer

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of interaction design experience in product design or UX design.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing products or services for children and families, or navigating global regulatory compliance.
  • Experience designing complex user onboarding, account management systems, or user lifecycle experiences.
  • Knowledge of mobile and multi-device design patterns, particularly on Android.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive design projects with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and people management skills.

The Kids and Families team is at the core of Googles entire Kids and Families strategy. We build supervised experiences for under 18 year old users and tools for their parents to manage their digital experiences. Were on a never-ending mission to provide a safe, delightful and content-nutritious environment, serving both kids and their parents. As a Senior Interaction Designer, you will join our Kids and Families team. In this role, you will be a key driver in shaping the user experience within our onboarding, lifecycle, and compliance product area. You will handle complex design challenges at the intersection of user needs, business goals, and a dynamic regulatory landscape. You will be responsible for designing intuitive, accessible, and age-appropriate experiences for critical user journeys, including account creation, device onboarding and setup, parental controls, account management over time, and ensuring our products meet global compliance requirements.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Googles flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Googles products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $159000 - $231000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Design intuitive, accessible, and age-appropriate experiences for critical user journeys, including account creation, device onboarding and setup, parental controls, and account management.
  • Translate complex regulatory and legal requirements into simple, elegant, and user-friendly design solutions that have high comprehension for both parents and children.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, User Researchers, Writers, and Legal Counsel to define problems, brainstorm solutions, and deliver high-quality designs.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring the voices of our users are central to the design process and presenting rationale clearly to stakeholders.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are implemented to specification and quality, contributing to product strategy and roadmap discussions.
