Job Description

We’re excited to be adding a Senior Product Designer to our growing team! This is an engaging and challenging opportunity that plays an integral role in shaping the development of our upcoming Yale August B2C products. We are looking for a creative, customer-obsessed and results-oriented product designer who wants to live on the edge of technologies that bring software and hardware together, within the connected home. This position will report directly to the Principal Product Designer.

This Senior Product Designer will support our efforts in building world-class solutions for our Security B2C, as well as our business partners. You will play a key role in building smart security products that people love.

POSITION LOCATION:

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with all work performed in Deerfield IL, or San Francisco CA where the candidate will be expected to be on-site 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using your full range of skills (UX design, design thinking, interaction design, prototyping, visual design) to contribute to elegant user experiences that span digital (mobile, web) and physical (devices) interfaces, guided by market and product requirements to solve real problems for real people.
  • Designing independently and taking design ownership throughout the entire product lifecycle, in multiple product areas.
  • Consistently leveraging all available quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and creatively suggesting data sources when they are not readily available.
  • Communicating and closely collaborating with software and hardware product managers, engineers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Advocating for changes, refinements, and ongoing improvements to the user experience.
  • Working across the entire design stack including helping to refine understanding of problems and needs, ideating, iterating, prototyping interactions in detail, and producing high-fidelity visuals.
  • Playing a lead role in maintaining documentation of user experience in accordance with design practices.
  • Facilitating workshops with cross-functional teams and with multiple stakeholders and constituencies. Leading design activities and workshops like journey mapping, design critiques.
  • Planning and leading user testing.
  • Working with ecosystem and business partners to develop user experiences that work seamlessly for people, across multiple physical and digital technologies.
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level designers by providing constructive feedback, sharing best practices, and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented design culture through regular design reviews and informal coaching.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in design-related disciplines.
  • 2+ years of design focus on IoT and connected products.
  • BA/BS degree in a design-related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Expert proficiency with Figma, and experience with Jira.
  • Strong experience working with design systems.
  • Strong interaction design and prototyping skills.
  • A deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Strong ability to execute polished, pixel-perfect visual designs.
  • Ability to create interactive prototypes in Protopie.
  • Knowledge of Swift UI and Jetpack Compose capabilities is a plus.
  • Experience working independently through an end-to-end product design process as a part of a scrum software team (product owners, mobile, backend, and quality assurance engineers).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and experience working with diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to make effective design decisions, work independently and self-organize.
  • Ability to turn complex physical and digital technologies into simple, elegant, intuitive experiences that make the complexities of hybrid physical and digital IoT products go unnoticed by consumers.
  • Ability to think holistically about user experiences across diverse product categories and focus on all possible states and micro-interactions (error handling, edge cases, success states) with relentless attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well across the business (engineering and business operations), both independently and in diverse and collaborative team environments.
  • Ability to identify usage models, use cases, and user journeys in collaboration with product managers in a scrum team context.
  • Mastery of design tools, and willingness to adopt new tools and skills needed to bring designs and prototypes to life.

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $115,000 USD - $165,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
