Introduction to the Team

Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

This iOS Engineer role sits within the Expedia Group Design System (EGDS) team, part of the Expedia Platform Engineering organization. Our team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the Expedia Group Design System, working closely with designers and engineering teams across the company to help deliver high-quality, accessible, and consistent UI patterns for our travelers and partners.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Apply your technical iOS engineering knowledge and best practices to solve user experience problems and advocate for the value engineers add to the design lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product managers across Expedia Group to identify and develop solutions for new and improved user experiences and interactions.
  • Use software design principles, data structures, and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, and optimized.
  • Build new technical expertise in a rapidly evolving environment and help mentor and guide other engineers on the team.
  • Coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions and proactively provide clear updates on work status.
  • Develop prototypes to influence product strategy, not just execution, and advise on technical possibilities and limitations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 5+ years of professional software development experience, OR a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience; OR Equivalent related professional experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Swift and modern iOS frameworks like SwiftUI or UIKit.
  • Experience maintaining multiple software projects in production environments, including bug fixing, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
  • Experience developing software in at least three different programming languages.
  • Proficiency with version control systems, such as Git.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience contributing to or using a design system.
  • A track record of successful collaboration with designers and engineers to create accessible and user-centric solutions.
  • Knowledge of iOS app design patterns (e.g., MVC, MVVM, MVP) and the ability to articulate their trade-offs.
  • Experience implementing sophisticated UI interactions, animations, and transitions on iOS.
  • Experience writing unit tests, creating testable code, and debugging issues using monitoring tools.
  • A dedication to knowledge sharing and continuous personal skill development.

Compensation

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $128,000.00 to $179,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $205,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
