Lead Product Designer

About mpro5

mpro5 is a publicly listed B2B SaaS company on the London Stock Exchange. We build and operate a connected frontline operations platform used by multi-site organisations across food safety, facilities management and retail — including Tesco, Mitie, Booker Group and Northern Rail.

Our platform brings tasks, compliance, communication and learning together in one place, replacing the fragmented mix of spreadsheets, paper forms and disconnected apps that most operations teams are still running on. What makes us different is that we are Software AND a Service — we configure, roll out and support every implementation ourselves, rather than leaving customers to figure it out alone.

Founded in 1996 and proudly family-led, mpro5 has over 700,000 sites trusting the platform globally. We are growing and investing — in our product, our team and our market.

The role

This is a senior individual contributor role at the heart of our product team. You will report directly to our Chief Product Officer and work closely with engineers and customer-facing teams to shape and deliver the UX and design across the mpro5 platform.

mpro5 is at an important point in its product journey. We have a clear, ambitious direction: to make mpro5 the most intuitive, capable and trusted frontline operations platform in our markets. A significant part of that is design — not just how the product looks, but how it works, how it feels for a store manager doing a daily compliance check or a facilities engineer logging a PPM job on their phone.

The person we are looking for understands that great design in a B2B product is not decoration. It is the difference between software that gets used and software that gets abandoned. You will be the person in the room who advocates for the user — frontline and head office alike — and who brings clarity, rigour and craft to everything we ship.

What you will do

Platform UX and design

  • Own end-to-end UX and visual design across the mpro5 platform — web, mobile and admin — from discovery through to delivery
  • Design flows, interactions and interfaces that work as well for a warehouse operative on a mobile device as for an operations director in a dashboard
  • Ensure design decisions are grounded in user research, customer feedback and real-world usage data, not assumptions
  • Maintain consistency and quality across the product by building and stewarding a robust design system

Discovery and research

  • Lead or contribute to user research — interviews, usability testing, observation — to develop a sharp understanding of how our customers and their frontline teams actually work
  • Translate complex operational workflows into design solutions that are genuinely simpler, not just visually cleaner
  • Work with the CPO and engineering team to define problems clearly before jumping to solutions, and bring design thinking into the earliest stages of product discovery

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers to ensure designs are implemented with fidelity, and to understand what is technically feasible without compromising the user experience
  • Partner with the customer success and delivery teams — who are closest to our customers day-to-day — to bring real-world insight back into the design process
  • Contribute to the product roadmap by identifying UX-driven opportunities for improvement, not just executing on briefs handed to you

Standards and quality

  • Set and uphold a high bar for design quality across everything we ship
  • Create clear, developer-ready specifications and assets that reduce ambiguity in implementation
  • Review shipped features against design intent and feed learnings back into the process

What we are looking for

Experience and skills

  • 5 to 8 years of product design experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates strong UX thinking as well as visual craft
  • Experience designing complex, multi-role B2B or enterprise software — ideally products used by both frontline/operational users and management/head-office users
  • Mobile-first design experience is essential — a significant portion of mpro5 usage is on mobile devices in operational environments
  • Proficiency in Figma, including component libraries and design systems
  • Experience conducting or commissioning user research and translating findings into design decisions
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment, iterating quickly and shipping incrementally

The right approach

  • You design for the user, not for your portfolio — you care more about whether something works than whether it looks impressive in a case study
  • You can hold your own in technical conversations with engineers and commercial conversations without needing to be an expert in either
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and can bring structure to problems that arent fully defined yet
  • You give and receive design feedback directly and constructively
  • You are curious about the operational worlds our customers live in — facilities management, food safety, retail — and motivated to design for people whose daily work looks nothing like sitting at a desk
