Position Summary
Product Designers are responsible for drawing 3rd party approvals as well as production prints for Home Building Facility (HBF). Designers will work heavily with the Home Building Facility (HBF) when completing the drawing packages and all plans must be in conformance with HBF design specs and construction design sheets. Additionally, plans must conform to HUD or MOD code requirements, manufacturing needs, and Clayton Homes drawing standards using Computer Aided Drafting (latest versions of AutoCAD).
Duties / Responsibilities
- Serve Home Building Facilities with drawings to construct all models per DAPIA manual and building codes using latest versions of AutoCAD or REVIT software.
- Work collaboratively with architects, interior designers, engineering, and Home Building Facility teams to ensure all designs meet design standards.
- Capable of creating drawings for a model starting with a preliminary design sketch and completing all related drawings.
- Develop plans that conform to HUD / MOD code requirements, manufacturing needs, and Clayton drawing standards.
- Able to consolidate all separately generated house files into one clean and accurate design package for our 3rd Party and assigned HBF to meet their production needs on a timely basis.
- Assures that all work created is complete and accurate prior to distribution.
- Able to manage priorities and projects based on assigned HBF schedule and collaborate with facility team and Product Design Supervisor.
- Strong project coordination with sales, QA, and Production team.
- Be available during HBF business hours to communicate and provide assistance as needed.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of current materials used by manufacturing.
- Maintain knowledge of DAPIA manuals and Modular Code books.
- Periodically follow homes during the construction process to obtain knowledge of the manufacturing processes and assist production team where needed.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates degree, Trade School, or equivalent experience required.
- 0-3 years' experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of latest versions of AutoCAD and/or REVIT.
- Understanding of housing construction process, materials, and codes: HUD (preferred), DAPIA Construction Manual, NEC, IRC.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat.
- Very high attention to detail with strong space planning skills.
- Ability to communicate, collaborate, and present effectively at all levels.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
- Constantly works in an indoor, temperature-controlled, sealed-window office environment.
- Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
