Job Description

As part of Checkout.coms #NextGen 8-Week Internship Program youll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience and a comprehensive introduction to digital payments and technology. The program offers an extensive learning experience through technical training, professional development workshops, and direct access to industry experts. Youll be part of a global Early Careers community, with regular networking events, mentoring opportunities, and social activities designed to build connections and accelerate your growth and leadership potential. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Product Design Intern to join our design team. This is an entry-level position perfect for someone eager to launch their career in product design and learn from experienced professionals. You will work closely with a dedicated mentor on well-defined tasks, contributing to various aspects of our product development. This role is ideal for individuals who are curious about how products function, passionate about user experience, and committed to continuous learning.

What youll be doing

Youll work with your manager or mentor to take on small elements of larger projects.
Learn to design user experiences for merchants and customers, gaining exposure to how design supports different stages of the payment lifecycle.
Further develop visual and interaction design skills by iterating on feedback and paying attention to detail to create clear, reliable user experiences.
Develop an understanding of our product, customers, and teams by asking questions and learning how design decisions impact both users and business outcomes.
Use our existing design system, contribute to its ongoing improvement under mentorship, and follow established processes to maintain consistent design quality.
Identify risks or blockers, clarify requirements, and seek guidance by leaning on your team and existing documentation when needed.
Communicate regularly with your cross-functional partners, and clearly share progress or challenges to stay aligned.
Experiment and utilise AI and generative tools to prototype ideas, iterate quickly, and help visualise future product concepts.

About you

  • A bachelors student in their penultimate year of a relevant design discipline, with foundational experience in product, UX, or interaction design gained through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • A solid baseline in visual and interaction design, with strong attention to detail, effective use of existing patterns and components, and confidence working in Figma for day-to-day design tasks.
  • Familiar with basic product thinking, including understanding user needs, iterating on solutions, and working with feedback.
  • Comfortable designing for digital products (web and/or mobile), and eager to learn how design collaborates with Product and Engineering in a professional environment.
  • Evidence of design work is required, such as a portfolio or selected product design projects (academic, personal, or internship-based) that demonstrate your design process, craft, and thinking.
  • An interest in fintech, payments, or complex digital products is a plus, but not required.
  • Available to work full-time for the duration of the 8-week programme across July and August 2026.
