Role Overview
We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our small, highly collaborative team. You'll work closely with our engineering and product teams to design and enhance our user experiences while having significant influence on our product direction as we grow. This role combines hands-on design work with the chance to build cutting-edge AI-enhanced software that transforms how EV charging infrastructure is maintained and managed.
On our nimble team, you'll have significant autonomy and impact. We value designers who thrive in startup environments, take ownership, and are excited about implementing ambitious solutions that provide real-world value to our customers. You'll be part designer, part product strategist, part user advocate, and part design system architect.
Our Team Structure
You'll be joining a lean, balanced team building our EMPWR product, working closely alongside three Senior Engineers and our Engineering Manager. This structure ensures you'll have direct collaboration with technical leadership, product strategy input, and clear ownership areas while working as part of a unified team focused on delivering exceptional user experiences.
Design Environment
Design at ChargerHelp includes:
- Design Tools: Figma for design, Vercel for prototyping
- Frontend technology: React and React Native applications serving web and mobile users
- User Base: Field technicians, internal and external remote operations teams, and stakeholders throughout the EV charging ecosystem
We're focused on creating intuitive interfaces for teams making data-driven decisions within complex systems and providing observable automation to drive efficiency at scale.
Key Outcomes and Responsibilities
Ensure Our Products Have Best-in-Class User Experiences
Objective: Deliver exceptional user experiences that set the standard in the EV charging industry
- Partner directly with our engineering teams to design and enhance user interfaces that bring SaaS and Consumer best practices to the EV charging industry
- Lead user research and usability testing to validate design decisions and continuously improve our products
- Design intuitive interfaces for complex EV charging data that transform technical information into actionable insights for both remote operations and field technician teams
- Implement best practices for information architecture, interaction design, and accessibility across all user touchpoints
- Work hands-on across the complete design process from user research through final implementation and iteration
Own the Design System Across Our Platform
Objective: Build and maintain a cohesive design system that scales with our growth
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive design system that ensures consistency across web and mobile applications
- Create reusable components and design patterns that accelerate development while maintaining design quality
- Establish design standards, guidelines, and documentation that enable the entire team to make consistent design decisions
- Bridge the gap between design vision and technical implementation through close collaboration with engineering
Support Product Strategy Execution
Objective: Be operationally involved in a product management capacity to drive successful product execution
- Take end-to-end ownership of specific product initiatives from conception to launch
- Create and maintain written documentation to support design decisions, including in PRDs, feature requirements, and acceptance criteria
- Conduct competitive analysis and user interviews to inform product roadmap decisions; guide discovery sessions that validate assumptions and identify opportunities
- Represent user needs in product-related conversations throughout the company, taking into consideration technical constraints and business priorities
Skills and Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Methodical, detail-oriented, and self-directed working style
- Have worked on complex workflows, enterprise SaaS, or highly technical products
- Experience with Figma, prototyping tools, and user research methodologies
- Demonstrated success with and passion for working with diverse teams
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience on small product teams (2-5 engineers)
- Interest in electric vehicles and climate tech
Remote Work Details
- Flexible work hours with core collaboration hours in US time zones
- Regular video stand-ups and planning sessions via Zoom
- Asynchronous communication via Slack and project management tools
- No regular on-site requirements
