ChangeMakers are hiring a

Senior UX Designer

You Are a Senior UX Designer

Location: Toronto or Halifax, Hybrid.

Your primary role is to lead and elevate user experiences across our clients digital ecosystems. You bring a strategic mindset to every project — connecting brand vision, organizational goals, and user needs into cohesive, impactful digital experiences. Youre a confident leader who thrives at the intersection of design thinking and emerging technology, and youre energized by mentoring others while continuing to grow your own craft. You have a deep command of UX/UI, mobile-first, and responsive design principles, and you move fluidly between strategy and execution.

What Were Looking For

A seasoned design leader with a strong user-centered design foundation, you will take a lead role in shaping intuitive and engaging experiences across a diverse range of clients. You bring a high level of craft, strategic thinking, and ownership to every project. Youre equally comfortable presenting to stakeholders, guiding junior designers, and rolling up your sleeves when the work demands it. We operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment — which means wearing many hats, pivoting quickly, and leading by example. You are someone who can drive design decisions with confidence, communicate the why behind your choices, and inspire those around you. Finally, we expect you to live our values and role model inclusive behaviors in support of a workplace where all feel a strong sense of belonging.

What Are Your Responsibilities?

  • Lead the creation of website and app user interface designs, from early-stage concepts through to polished, production-ready deliverables
  • Own, govern, and scale Figma design systems — establishing best practices, component libraries, and documentation standards across the team
  • Lead the development and quality oversight of email templates, with deep expertise in dark-mode, responsive design, and deliverability best practices
  • Drive all visual design stages from discovery to final hand-off, producing comprehensive mock-ups, interaction specs, and style guides for development
  • Lead UX research initiatives, site audits, and presentation of findings and strategic recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with and mentor UX team members in developing sitemaps, wireframes, and information architecture that communicates clearly and scales effectively
  • Champion the full project lifecycle — from discovery and research through IA, visual design, development handoff, QA, and deployment — ensuring design quality at every stage
  • Establish and evangelize user research methodologies and interface design best practices across the team and with clients
  • Act as a design thought leader and point of escalation for complex design challenges

What Type of Qualities and Qualifications Should I Have?

  • Minimum of 5+ years experience as a UX/UI designer, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity
  • Expert proficiency in Figma, including advanced design system architecture, prototyping, and developer handoff workflows
  • Strong working knowledge of WCAG accessibility guidelines, with demonstrated experience leading accessible design implementation
  • Solid understanding of SEO best practices and their relationship to UX and information architecture decisions
  • In-depth knowledge of CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and the ability to design confidently within platform constraints while guiding content strategy
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS — sufficient to make informed design decisions, communicate clearly with developers, and QA your own work
  • Experience presenting design rationale and facilitating design reviews with clients and cross-functional teams
  • Degree or certificate in Communication Design, Information Science, UX, Psychology/Anthropology/Sociology, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
