POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Digital Experience Designer is responsible for ensuring Digital Innovation solutions are intuitive, adopted, and deliver value to end users. This role owns the user experience of every digital product the team delivers in partnership with IT, including tools for field operations, project execution, commercial analytics, as well as workflow applications for corporate teams. The designer applies user research, interaction design, and visual design discipline to create interfaces that feel intuitive, reduce cognitive load, and earn user trust.

This position is ideal for someone who views design as a problem-solving discipline rather than a styling exercise. The successful candidate is energized by observing users in their real work environment and is equally comfortable engaging with field operations employees as they are with senior leadership. They bring a strong portfolio, a pragmatic approach to iteration, and the ability to advocate for user-centered design without slowing delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

User Research & Discovery

  • Conduct interviews, shadowing sessions, and field visits to understand how operators, engineers, project managers, commercial analysts, and corporate users work.
  • Synthesize research into user personas, journey maps, and problem statements that inform solution design.
  • Partner with Digital Innovation Leads and the Business Process Analyst to ensure solutions address root-cause user pain, not just symptoms.

Interaction & Visual Design

  • Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for dashboards, workflow applications, and operational tools.
  • Apply visual hierarchy, information architecture, and accessibility principles to ensure designs work for users across environments (office, control room, field, mobile).
  • Establish and maintain a shared design system that creates consistency across Digital Innovation deliverables.
  • Partner with IT’s solutions architects and engineers to ensure designs are implementable at enterprise scale.

Usability Testing & Iteration

  • Run usability tests on prototypes and production solutions; iterate based on findings.
  • Define and track usability and adoption metrics in partnership with the Change Management Lead.
  • Continuously validate that delivered solutions meet the needs they were designed for.

Design Advocacy & Collaboration

  • Champion user-centered design practices across the Digital Innovation team and the broader business.
  • Collaborate with user experience and design counterparts in IT and across the organization to align on standards and avoid duplication.
  • Contribute to the broader Digital Innovation roadmap by surfacing opportunities that emerge from user research.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in user experience, product design, or digital experience design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating interaction design, visual design, and user research outputs.
  • Proficiency in modern design tools (Figma, Adobe, or equivalent acceptable).
  • Experience designing for enterprise or industrial software environments, not solely consumer applications.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and responsive design principles.

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience designing for midstream oil & gas, broader energy, utilities, manufacturing, or other operations-intensive environments.
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices and dashboard design patterns.
  • Experience designing interfaces within Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power BI) or comparable low-code and no-code environments.
  • Background in service design or systems design.
  • Prior experience establishing or scaling a design system in an enterprise environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related field (equivalent professional experience will also be considered).

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in a design-related discipline.
