Come work with us, and together well create something amazing. Our team of passionate developers is growing.

We are seeking an experienced UX Design Director to assist in the creation of new ARPG experiences within one of Blizzards most iconic worlds, Diablo. As a key member of the development team, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, strategic, and approachable gameplay. You are comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, navigating fluid deadlines and changing priorities with purpose.

This role offers a flexible hybrid work week, with a mix of remote and on-site days. While hybrid is the standard arrangement, youre also welcome to work on-site full-time if you prefer. Our primary studio locations are in Albany, NY, and Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and mentor a high-performing UI/UX team; set clear standards, workflows, and quality bars.
  • Define and maintain interface guidelines and patterns to ensure cohesive, readable experiences across platforms and control schemes.
  • Partner with User Research and analytics to validate decisions and iterate based on player data and playtests.
  • Create wireframes and mockups for core features; implement efficient layouts in the engine and communicate functional requirements to engineering.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (art, design, audio, engineering, production) to embed UX principles throughout development.
  • Present work regularly, gather feedback, and refine the player experience.
  • Track industry trends and accessibility best practices to inform innovation and live-service needs (seasons, events, shop, battle pass).

Minimum Requirements

  • 12+ years in UI/UX for games or interactive products, with shipped work that demonstrates ARPG-friendly readability, hierarchy, and interaction craft.
  • Proven experience leading design teams. Have a track record of providing design direction, performance management, and professional development.
  • Expert-level understanding of hierarchy and layout design principles, UX process and usability design principles, color theory, and visual design.
  • Proficiency in UX design tools such as Figma, Miro, and Photoshop (or equivalent) for wireframing, prototyping, and documentation, with the ability to run or collaborate on user research and playtest synthesis.
  • Hands-on experience integrating UI in AAA engines, understanding art/tech workflows, performance constraints, and cross-discipline handoffs.
  • Shipped complex UI systems end-to-end across distinct inputs and platforms (e.g., KBM vs. controller, PC/console, and familiarity with mobile patterns where relevant).
  • Strong communicator: clear, persuasive writing and presentation; effective collaboration across design, art, engineering, audio, and production.
  • Demonstrated ability to take features from initial pitch to shipped product, leveraging appropriate tools, technology, and visual language.
  • Strong documentation philosophies and strategies to evangelize your designs.
  • Positive attitude and an ability to receive and provide objective feedback.

Extra Points

  • Experience manipulating UI materials and effects, including dynamic elements like repeating animations, gothic VFX, and combat-driven feedback loops that reinforce the dark fantasy aesthetic.
  • Portfolio showcasing ARPG or action-RPG UI/UX solutions, demonstrating mastery of inventory systems, skill trees, loot flows, and readability under fast-paced combat conditions.
  • Motion graphics or animation expertise applied to UI transitions, ability activations, and diegetic elements that enhance immersion without sacrificing clarity.
  • Active player of ARPGs and live-service titles (bonus for Diablo experience), with a strong understanding of progression systems, endgame loops, and player expectations around customization and accessibility.
